What equipment will I need for this course?

You could gain a lot of knowledge from just watching this course, but to get the most out of it you will need:

– Suture pads, practice skin for tattoo artists, and a dish sponge to excise lesions, perform biopsies etc. We also show how to make cysts and abscesses from simple cling wrap and cream cheese.

– Sutures (we suggest 3/0 or 4/0 silk training sutures, on 18mm or 26mm needles with 3/8 circle curves, available pretty cheaply again from Ebay, Amazon, etc). Don’t get the sterile sutures, these cost much more and aren’t needed for this course. A pack of 10 should cost around £10

– A disposable suture set (again, disposable sets are very cheap from the internet. Make sure the set contains needle holders, toothed forceps and scissors). This should be about £5-6

If you have access to surgical equipment (for example you’re doing a surgical placement), then you may be able to get hold of suitable kit for free. Always check with those in charge first though – being accused of theft would not be a pleasant experience!

And that’s it – all you then have to do is sit and practice in your own time, and hopefully surprise yourself at how quickly you can learn these skills.
